#FiveSentenceFiction - Home

With literally hours to spare here's my Five Sentence Fiction for this week.

This week's word is HOME.

I've been showing you lots of pictures this week of my home, in various states of repair, but today I wanted to create somewhere new, someone else's home with a different perspective...

The stench as I climbed the stairs was difficult to ignore, as was the offensive graffiti that lined the walls.

Trying hard not to let my face betray my prejudices I knocked on the door of flat 5b.

Mel threw the door wide open, her beaming smile warm and welcoming.

I could see her flat was basically furnished but neat and clean, why was that such a surprise?

Compared to the shop doorway where Mel had been sleeping a few weeks ago her new home was like a palace.

Five Sentence Fiction - Angles

I read the tweet quickly and thought it said this week's word for Lillie's Five Sentence Fiction was Angels.

When I clicked on the link I was surprised to see a picture of some sharply pointed roof tops.

#BlondeMomentOfTheDay - Angles NOT Angels!

I wondered if just for a bit of fun I could write a story using both ideas and it was Sophie Moss who came up with the idea for this...

The Angel in the Corner

Sapphira sat at her desk and stretched out her wings ever so slightly from boredom.

As she did so sunlight caught the tips sending rainbow sparkles onto the wall just above the teacher’s head.

Practicing her new found skill she pondered why angels needed to study geometry anyway?

Perhaps her thoughts were heard because at that exact moment Gabriel turned round to address his dreamy pupil.

“Sapphira we could calculate the angles between the sun, your wings and the wall if you wish, but the maths is a lot harder than the question you should be working on."

Five Sentence Fiction - Conquer

Lillie's word for this week's Five Sentence Fiction is CONQUER.

It took me a while to decide where to take this one but I finally came up with this tale inspired by a true life event, which I may explain tomorrow if time allows...

Man or Mouse?

Some fears are irrational but that doesn’t stop them holding us to ransom.

Take for example the mouse problem, Penny would scream hysterically every time we saw it scuttling across the kitchen floor.

I laughed at her from the start, told her it was so tiny it had to be more scared of her.

“But you should do something about it; you’re the man of the house.”

So I bought a trap and I’ve caught the blessed thing, now I just have to conquer my own fears and set it free.

Five Sentence Fiction - Paradise

The word this week is Paradise

What it’s all about: Five Sentence Fiction is about packing a powerful punch in a tiny fist. Each week I will post a one word inspiration, then anyone wishing to participate will write a five sentence story based on the prompt word. The word does not have to appear in your five sentences, just use it for direction.

Who Reads the Small Print Anyway?

Clara dreamily watched the raindrops running down the windowpane, tracing their magical journey with a manicured fingertip.

The candle beside her flickered in the draft causing the diamonds in her ring to sparkle, throwing glittering confetti all around them.

This wasn’t quite how she imagined it would be but neither of them had taken the time to read the small print when they booked.

May was the rainy season and power-cuts on this part of the island were relatively common.

No wonder their dream honeymoon had come in well under budget.
