Five Sentence Fiction - Detour

Some prompts just grab you from the start and with all this dark fiction that abounds lately I wanted to write a short, snappy, funny story...

So here's my take on Lillie McFerrin's Five Sentence Fiction this week, the picture was just as much of a prompt as the word... Enjoy!

 Detour

Everybody told me not to buy the cheap too-good-to-be-true SatNav from the market.

It looked so pretty with its sparkly cover – I’m a sucker for a bit of bling!

Water gurgled up through the rusty holes of my beat up car.

Squeezing out my sopping wet hair with my left hand I stared at the useless piece of rescued technology in my right.

I wonder if the man at the market will give me a refund?

  2. Don't you just hate it when that happens? I agree this is a delightfully more upbeat view of the prompt then I went. I always enjoy seeing how a given prompt flows through the creative process of different minds. Nicely done!

    1. youngest son said this story reminded him of the ATMOS system in Dr Who! At least he liked and understood this story - I read one to him this morning and he thought it was rubbish!

    1. I love writing this sort of dizzy character I think she is my alter ego - not too hopeful about the refund actually - I suspect the stallholder from the market has scarpered and she's been well and truely done!

  7. Hey Sarah - many thanks for stopping by the Hearth, it's a pleasure to have your company there :)

Your FSF put a smile on my face, and thank you for that. If you can put a smile on someone's face each day, no matter who they are, then you have a gift :)

    1. Thanks Mark
I wrote so many posts that made people cry after my husband died that it is an absolute joy to spread my wings and bring a little laughter!

  12. More cheap Chinese crap! One day we're all going to be buried under it. In my post, my protagonist ended up in the same mess, but it was her own doing.

Fun take on the prompt, Sarah. :)
